Account deletion and deactivation

Account deletion and deactivation

This page is intended to inform Scubbl users about the procedures applicable to account deactivation and requests for deletion of their personal data.

It explains in particular the difference between instant account deactivation, available directly in the application, and a request for deletion of personal data, which must be submitted primarily from within the application in order to securely identify the user concerned.

This page supplements, where applicable, the Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, and any other contractual or informational document applicable to the Scubbl services.

1. Definitions

For the purposes of this page, the following terms have the meanings set out below:

Account: the personal space created by a user in order to access the services offered by Scubbl.

User: any person who has a Scubbl account.

Account deactivation: an operation that makes the account inactive and invisible to other users, without immediately resulting in the complete deletion of the associated personal data.

Deletion request: a request submitted by the user to obtain the deletion or anonymisation of the personal data associated with their account, subject to the limits provided by applicable law.

Personal data: any information relating directly or indirectly to an identified or identifiable user.

Scubbl: the service operated under the Scubbl brand, accessible in particular through the mobile application and the associated website.

2. Instant account deactivation from the application

Scubbl allows users to deactivate their account directly from the application.

Deactivation is an automated and instant procedure. It can be performed by the user while logged in to their account.

2.1 Deactivation procedure

To deactivate their account, the user must follow these steps:

  1. open the Scubbl application;
  2. log in to their account;
  3. go to Settings;
  4. select Deactivate my account;
  5. confirm the account deactivation.

Once deactivation has been confirmed, the account is immediately made inactive.

2.2 Effects of deactivation

Account deactivation has, in particular, the following effects:

the user's profile becomes invisible to other users;

the account no longer appears in the application's community areas;

content associated with the profile is no longer presented as belonging to an active account;

the user can no longer normally use features that require an active account;

some data may remain stored in Scubbl's systems until a deletion request has been processed.

Account deactivation does not constitute the immediate, complete and permanent deletion of the personal data associated with the account.

3. Request for deletion of personal data

The user may request the deletion of personal data associated with their account directly from the Scubbl application.

For security reasons, the recommended and primary procedure for submitting a deletion request is the one available in the application, while the user is logged in to their account.

If the user no longer has access to their account or to the application, they may contact Scubbl at privacy@scubbl.com. In that case, Scubbl may request additional information in order to verify the identity of the requester before taking any action on the account or the associated data.

3.1 Deletion request procedure

To request the deletion of their personal data, the user must follow these steps:

  1. open the Scubbl application;
  2. log in to their account;
  3. go to Settings;
  4. select Request deletion of my account;
  5. confirm the deletion request.

Confirmation of this request constitutes the submission to Scubbl of a request for erasure of the personal data associated with the relevant account.

3.2 Confirmation and processing of the request

After confirmation of the request in the application, Scubbl reviews and processes it under the conditions provided by applicable law.

The request may result in:

the deletion of certain personal data;

the anonymisation of certain data;

the temporary retention of certain data where necessary or legally justified;

the retention of certain information where required by law, service security, or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

Deletion or anonymisation of data may be irreversible.

4. Data covered by deletion

Subject to the limits provided by applicable law, the deletion request may cover, in particular:

account identification information;

the email address associated with the account;

profile information;

personal settings;

usage data associated with the account;

personal content published or saved by the user;

interactions associated with the account;

technical data linked to the use of the service, where deletion is possible and legally required.

Where technically appropriate, certain data may be anonymised rather than deleted. Anonymisation consists of dissociating the retained data from the user's identity so that it no longer enables the user to be directly identified.

5. Community content and anonymisation

Scubbl is based on community features that allow users, in particular, to publish, share, comment on, contribute to, or enrich certain content related to diving, sites, species, regions, or community activity.

Some content may have been integrated into collective areas or may contribute to the general consistency of the service. In such cases, complete deletion may affect the experience of other users or the operation of the platform.

Where justified, Scubbl may anonymise this content rather than delete it completely. The relevant content is then no longer associated with the identified user.

This may include, in particular:

certain community contributions;

certain public comments or exchanges;

certain observations or information added to collective content;

certain elements necessary for the technical or editorial consistency of the service.

6. Limits to the right to erasure

The right to erasure is not absolute.

Scubbl may be required to retain certain data where retention is necessary, in particular:

to comply with a legal, accounting, tax or regulatory obligation;

for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims;

to prevent fraud, abuse or threats to the security of the service;

for the temporary retention of technical logs;

to handle a dispute, report or complaint;

to manage transactions, purchases or subscriptions made through Apple, Google or a payment provider;

to preserve the integrity of community content where it must be retained in anonymised form.

The retained data is kept only for as long as necessary for the purpose justifying its retention.

7. Subscriptions, purchases and third-party services

Deactivating a Scubbl account or requesting deletion of personal data does not necessarily result in the automatic cancellation of subscriptions or purchases managed by third-party services.

Subscriptions purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play must be managed directly from the user's Apple or Google account, in accordance with the rules of those platforms.

The user remains responsible for managing, cancelling or renewing their subscriptions with the relevant platforms.

Deletion or deactivation of the Scubbl account does not guarantee reimbursement of a purchase or subscription already charged by a third-party platform.

8. Processing time

Scubbl processes requests relating to personal data within the time limits provided by applicable law.

Except in special circumstances, an appropriate response or action is provided within one month from receipt of the request.

This period may be extended where the request is complex, where a large number of requests are being processed, or where additional checks are necessary. In that case, the user is informed of the extension and the reasons for the delay.

9. Possible account reactivation

Where the account has only been deactivated, simply logging in again immediately reactivates the account, provided that the necessary data is still available and that the account has not been permanently deleted or anonymised.

Scubbl does not guarantee that an account can be reactivated where the associated data has been deleted, anonymised or made permanently unavailable.

Where the data deletion request has been processed, the user may permanently lose access to their account, content, history, preferences and associated features.

10. Security and authentication

Account deactivation and personal data deletion requests are available from within the application in order to ensure that the request is initiated by an authenticated user.

This procedure is intended to protect users against fraudulent, abusive or unauthorised third-party requests.

For this reason, Scubbl does not process account deletion requests submitted through an external channel where the identity of the requester cannot be sufficiently verified.
